MOVING FOR GOOD!

A Community Celebration of Survivorship, Strength & Support

Overland Park Jazzercise – 10530 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS (Outdoor Parking Lot)

On October 18th, Overland Park Jazzercise was proud to host MOVING FOR GOOD! a vibrant outdoor fundraiser in support of Back in the Swing, a Kansas City-based grassroots nonprofit dedicated to empowering breast cancer survivors through personalized survivorship care.

Members, fiends, kids, neighbors and family of all ages—Jazzercisers and non-Jazzercisers—moved for good, one step at a time, to support breast cancer survivorship at the University of Kansas Cancer Center.

This first-ever joyful event blended movement, music, and meaning—celebrating the healing power of exercise and the strength of survivors in our community.

  • A free, high-energy Jazzercise class was led by local instructors
  • Inspiring speakers Jennifer Klemp, Ph.D., Director of Cancer Survivorship at the University of Kansas Cancer Center and Megan Solberg, Ph.D. psychologist with the psycho-oncology program shared the impact of movement on survivorship
  • Book signing with The Back in the Swing Cookbook co-authors Barbara C. Unell and Judith Fertig
  • “Moving for Good-y” appreciation bundles for donors
  • Sweet treats provided by McLain’s Bakery, a beloved Kansas City favorite known for scratch-made pastries and warm community spirit

DONATION DETAILS:

Donations to Back in the Swing benefitted local breast cancer survivors through the onco-psychology program at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Donors received a curated “Moving for Good-y” bundle, including:

  • An autographed copy of the award-winning The Back in the Swing Cookbook: Recipes for Eating and Living Well Every Day after Breast Cancer (for the first 25 donors)
  • A Back in the Swing pedometer
  • Jazzercise pen and notebook
  • Other wellness surprises

Proceeds from Back in the Swing Cookbook sales benefit Back in the Swing USA®, a grassroots, national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving and protecting well-being after breast cancer by
supporting education for consumers and healthcare providers; personalized, comprehensive, survivorship clinical healthcare; and academic medical research. When Back in the Swing began in 2000, no comprehensive, personalized, integrative medical services for breast cancer survivors existed. In 2012, 12 years later, the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) announced that a survivorship care plan and survivorship support are among the standards of care required for hospital cancer programs.
